The first couple of years, Roxie would eat the Hills Prescription KD kibbles & treats from Royal Canin.  But then she got tired of them.  There is not a lot of variety in KD foods, so I had to start making my own.  Dr. Hauser had given me a couple of recipes (for Monty, many years before) that I used for a while.  Then she started tiring of that & I had to punt from there.  Here are some of my "Not Really Recipes".

Below, are the recipes from Dr. Hauser, when Monty had kidney failure & these were the same ones they were suggesting when I started Roxie on KD.  The recommended serving portion was based upon his weight (Monty's, not Dr. Hauser's) which was probably about 10-11 pounds at the time.

Chicken & Potato Diet (low protein, low phosphorus, high potatssium, low sodium)
serving size - 3/4 of the recipe per day (based up pet weight of ~10-11 pounds)

1/4 cup cooked chicken breast
3 cups potato, boiled with skin
2 tablespoons chicken fat
1 1/2 calcium carbonate tablets (600 milligrams calcium)
1/2 multiple vitamin mineral tablet

Beef & Potato Diet (low protein, low phosphorus, high potatssium, low sodium)
serving size - 3/4 of the recipe per day (based up pet weight of ~10-11 pounds)

2 ounces lean ground beef (raw weight) cooked (I use the 85% lean)
3 cups potato, boiled with skin
2 tablespoons chicken fat
1 1/2 calcium carbonate tablets (600 milligrams calcium)
1/2 multiple vitamin mineral tablet

Canine Restricted Protein Diet

serving size - 3/4 of the recipe per day (based up pet weight of ~10-11 pounds)

1/4 pound of ground beef (do not use lean round chuck)
2 cups cooked, unsalted, white rice
1 hard cooked egg, finely chopped
3 slices white bread, crumbled
1 tsp (5 g) calcium carbonate

Also add a balanced supplement, which fulfills the canine MDR (minimum daily requirement) for all vitamins & trace minerals.
